Therapy Services

School-based Services
Our clinicians are housed in elementary, middle, and high schools within Buncombe, Burke, and McDowell Counties to provide individual, group, and family therapy. Also, ACA offers Day Treatment Early Identification and Transition Services in Buncombe and McDowell Counties to enhance our Day Treatment model.
Individual, Family, School-Based, Integrated Care, & Group Therapy
Help for those with behavioral health diagnosis is available including individual, group, and family therapy. We offer services which are office based, within schools, and housed in Primary Care offices. Currently our Integrated Care efforts include Mountain View Pediatrics, High Country Community Health and Burke Integrated Health.
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is used to help people experiencing posttraumatic stress return to a healthy state of functioning after a traumatic event. This therapy is used for the parents or caregivers, children, and adolescents in a way that decreases the negative behavior patterns and emotional responses that occur as a result of sexual abuse, physical abuse, or other trauma.
Substance Use Disorder Services
Substance Use Disorders Outpatient Individual and Group Therapy is a relationship-based treatment for groups and individuals. A team of licensed therapists work together with individuals and their guardians, if appropriate, to develop a plan of action to address goals related to their substance use. Ask about our gender specific groups.
Active Parenting of Teens-Families in Action
This program is a school and community based intervention for middle school-aged youth, designed to increase protective factors that prevent and reduce alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use; irresponsible sexual behavior, and violence. This program includes a parent and teen component, which advocates mutual respect among family members, parental guidance, and use of a democratic style of parental leadership that facilitates behavioral correction.
Psychiatric Care and Medication Management
Psychiatric care and medication management assessments are available for individuals dealing with behavioral health challenges stemming from symptoms caused by their behavioral health diagnosis.

Hospital Discharge Planning
Burke and Catawba counties
For children and adults who are discharging from an inpatient psychiatric facility, facility based crisis, or detox that need coordination of care and/or continued behavioral health services.

Assertive Engagement (AE) is a community based resource to assist children, adolescents, and adults in accessing and navigating supportive services consistently. The goal is for individuals to receive timely outreach and engagement into the most appropriate treatment.

Intensive In-Home Services
Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, and McDowell counties
Intensive In-Home (IIH) teams are available to serve children and adolescents who are at risk of out-of-home placement and/or need to be stabilized within the home.
Therapeutic Foster Care
For children who need a safe and nurturing environment, Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) can help. The goal for TFC is for each child to return to his or her natural home or an environment best suited for their needs, after making positive behavioral changes.

Day Treatment Services
Buncombe and McDowell counties
Day Treatment is a specialized educational setting where children and adolescents can receive academics and intensive behavioral health services. Day Treatment services are focused on helping the child or adolescent to meet goals and return to a traditional academic setting. A Caring Alternative works with the school system to optimize academic performance and meet the behavioral health needs of each student referred to the program. Children and adolescents in the program receive assistance with developing and practicing skills aimed at improving independent decision making and mastering skills for success.
