We provide an array services to Alexander, Buncombe, Burke, Catawba, Caldwell, and McDowell Counties, which consist of Assisted Family Living, Assertive Community Treatment Team, Community Support Team, Day Treatment, Integrated Care, Intensive In-Home, Medication Management, Outpatient Therapy, and Therapeutic Foster Care. We are CARF accredited and CABHA certified.

  • A Caring Alternative is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to serve adults as a part of the Community Support Team. Community Support Team (CST) services consist of community-based mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation services and necessary supports provided through a team approach to assist adults in achieving rehabilitative and recovery goals. It is intended for individuals with mental illness, substance use disorders, or both who have complex and extensive treatment needs.

  • Education and Experience: Certified Peer Support Specialist and 1 year of adult mental health experience.


  • A Caring Alternative is seeking a Qualified or Associate Professional to serve as a member of an ACT Team in Morganton, North Carolina. The Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) is a service provided by an interdisciplinary team that ensures and is prepared to carry out a full range of treatment functions wherever and whenever needed. The goal for ACT is to eliminate or reduce the symptoms of severe mental illness and to enhance the individual’s quality of life. The purpose of this position is to serve as a therapeutic resource to consumers of A Caring Alternative in compliance with agency standards and best practices.

  • Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, Social Work or closely related Human Services area and 1 year of professional work experience. If QP, two years of professional work experience. 


  • This position is part of the executive leadership team. Position is responsible for completing Quality Assurance reports on a quarterly basis, detailing activities related to satisfaction surveys, accommodation, health and safety activities, and other reports as required. Ensure compliance with all documentation, staff qualifications, and other state, federal, and accrediting body requirements for the services delivered as well as compliance with all applicable state and federal standards. Ensure the agency’s compliance with accreditation standards and lead reaccreditation activities. Assist in educating and/or retraining staff with deficiencies in clinical and operational areas that affect consumer services. Direct and participate in efforts to prepare for external audits as needed. Ensure development of a culture of improvement across the entire agency with continuous staff involvement.

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or closely related Human Services area and 2 years of mental health experience. Master's degree preferred with six years of post-degree professional experience. Two or more years in Quality Assurance and agency performance with special emphasis on CARF accreditation standards. Experience in clinical services, primary and behavioral health care integration, organizational change processes, and consultation and training development/implementation Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills. High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office- MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience


  • Seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor to work as a member of an Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) in Hickory, North Carolina. ACTT is a team dedicated to reducing and eliminating the symptoms of severe mental illness and to enhance the individual's quality of life.

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) in Psychology, Social Work, or closely related Human Services area and 2 years of adult mental health experience. Must have licensure as LCAS, LCASA, or CSAC.​​


  •  A Caring Alternative is seeking an Peer Support Specialist for a new ACT Team forming in Hickory, NC that will serve clients in Catawba and Iredell Counties. The role of a Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) is to serve as a resources for individuals with mental health and/or co-occurring condition. Peer Support Specialists have been trained and certified to help others with these conditions, as well as identifying and achieving specific life and recovery goals.

  • Education and Experience Required: Certified Peer Support Specialist and one (1) year of behavioral health experience.


  • A Caring Alternative is seeking an Employment Specialist for a new Assertive Community Treatment Team forming in Hickory, NC that will serve clients in Catawba and Iredell Counties. The employment specialist provides supported employment and education services to individuals served by the ACT Team, including engagement, vocational assessment, job development, job coaching, and follow-along supports as well as benefits counseling.

  • Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in Human Services, Social Work, Special Education, or other closely related Human Services area and two (2) years of professional experience with the adult mental health population. Preference for at least 1 year of experience providing employment services or advanced education that involved field training in vocational services.



Peer Support Specialist (Morganton, NC)

Seeking several Certified Peer Supports to provide various services to the adult mental health population. Experience with the population served is preferred as well as a working knowledge of the resources available within the local communities. Must be certified. 

Provisional and Licensed Clinicians

  • Seeking individuals who are licensed or provisionally licensed with LPC, LCAS, LCSW, LMFT to work within a variety of services such as ACTT, OPT, and SCHOOL BASED PROGRAMS. Individuals would work in collaberation with their teams to provide exceptional care to consumers and their families.​

Therapeutic Foster Care Parents (Morganton/Marion/Lenoir, NC)​

  • Seeking individuals licensed or interested in becoming licensed in order to provide Therapeutic Foster Care within their home.  Individuals must be 21 years or older and have GED/High School Diploma. All TFC Parents must have a desire and commitment to help provide a loving home environment. A Caring Alternative will assist with the necessary support & supervision so that the home will be successful in providing a stabilized environment to the child(ren). We will provide the required MAPP course to qualified applicants in addition to other helpful trainings.
